“Como Tú” by Roque Dalton

Creo que el mundo es bello,
que la poesía es como el pan, de todos.

I think nothing speaks to me more than these two lines: “I believe the world is beautiful/and that poetry, like bread, is for everyone.” It’s part of the reason why I embarked on this insane quest to push poetry onto the masses. I did it while working in the children’s department, stressing to both children and parents the importance of these pieces of work. And I continue to do it on a college level, as well. Poetry is important. Poetry is art. Poetry is journaling for all the world to read.

But poetry does not belong to an elite few; it belongs to the masses.
