Writing is writing whether done for duty, profit, or fun.

I don’t usually gravitate toward these stories, but I do love settling in a chair and reading some smut—especially when it’s a freebie from Book Funnel. So, when I was offered Candy Quinn’s Claimed by my Best Friend’s Dad: A Fertile First Time, I snagged the free audio short story and hit play as I walked my ass to the convenient store for some tacos.

Summary:

Madoline has always lusted over Alice’s dad; it’s something she is not ashamed of sharing with her best friend. As fate would have it, Madoline finds herself bunking with the silver-fox after Alice falls ill while they’re vacationing at a luxury resort. Sexy shenanigans ensue.

Review:

While the book follows a typical paint-by-numbers plot, Candy Quinn’s prose keeps it from falling too deep into the cliché, making it fresh. Partnered with Nikki Diamon’s narration, the story kept me hooked despite the qualms I had with it.

Despite her steamy prose, certain word choices pulled me out of the story. As I have mentioned, the use of “daddy” is not my cup of tea, and I doubt it will ever be. While this story is less about littles and their space and more about gaining a sugar daddy, it still comes off as dirty and not in that good way. And I won’t even begin to discuss on why “little pussy” leaves me feeling uneasy.

Maybe I’m too queer for these stories.

The power dynamic in age-gap stories is an uncomfortable subject for me, and this story was no exception. I can’t remember the last time I read one that I truly enjoyed. (Possibly when I was young myself, but as I get older the older love interests just feel more predatory and less sexy.)

While this story wasn’t for me, I am not writing off Quinn’s other tales.  There may just be one that would better suit my taste, after all.

Until next time, keep on huntin’.
