From "Some Melodious Plot" by Anthony Borruso
Of course, the pigeons adapted
to an ubran space—they're party birds
with smokey plumage, and they grow
peckish unless they're bobbing
beat to Milli Vanilli or waving
glow sticks around the Sabrett stand.
There was something playful about Anthony Borruso’s “Some Melodious Plot” that drew my attention. Perhaps it was the absurdity of the quote that introduces his poem, something lifted from a Official Birds Aren’t Real Informational Van Bumper Sticker. At times, I can’t tell if the “birds aren’t real” folk are true conspiracy theorists or if a meme gained a life of its own, grew legs, and continues to walkabout this world. Either way, during all the chaotic news stories this world has to offer, it is always fun to take a pause.
