Poetry Break

Poetry Break

Today’s a bit of a cheat as Tim Minchin is better known for his comedy acts than his poetry. But it’s always been a dream of mine to recite “Storm” in front of a crowd during a poetry night; however, the only poetry nights I attend these days are the ones hosted by my employer. I don’t see me keeping my job if I did that.

I originally heard the beat poem in the live recording of his show “Ready for This?,” which I stumbled upon on YouTube one afternoon several years ago. Since then, it’s become a book (which I didn’t know about) and an animated movie (which I did know about).

Please enjoy.

If you wanna watch telly, you should watch Scooby Doo
That show was so cool
Because every time there was a church with a ghoul
Or a ghost in a school
They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?
The fucking janitor or the dude who ran the waterslide
Because throughout history
Every mystery
Ever solved has turned out to be
Not magic

from Storm
