“A Lot Like You” by Rudy Francisco

That if she was a book, I would memorize her table of contents
I would read her cover to cover, hoping to find typos
Just so we could both have something to work on
Because aren’t we all unfinished, don’t we all need editing
Aren’t we all waiting to be read to be someone
Praying they will tell us that we make sense?

There are moments when I think maybe the story isn’t over. Mostly, I think that’s due to projection. We all have that idea of the perfect someone. The person you describe and realize you’re talking about the person sitting right next to you. Because that’s how it works in the movies, in all the books.

But still…

It’s something to think about.

“A Lot Like You” can be found in Rudy Francisco’s collection I’ll Fly Away.
